A critical look at the state of affairs in America and our world reveals we need a compelling vision. Only then will we rise above the circumstances and challenges we face today. The last compelling vision was articulated over 50 years ago by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr in his "I Have a Dream" speech. While we have made progress, our current reality (particularly the divisions taking place on multiple fronts) signals it’s time to update and live out a new vision.
Like anything worth doing, getting buy-in to a new reality is no walk in the park. The discrepancy between the facts and appearances of our current reality and where our souls long to be is significant. To cross that chasm requires a mindset shift that will cause additional tension and perhaps more disruption.
We are living in a time of accelerated change - socially, technologically, and politically. There is upheaval not only in America but also across the globe. This change signals there is a sizable paradigm shift afoot. Despite appearances, there is good reason to believe we are moving from one stage of being to a more evolved one. We can co-create the results we want for our communities, country, and world despite the resistance.
The resistance is part of the process. Dr. H. Emilie Cady, in her classic text Lessons in Truth, called it "chemicalization." Chemicalization is when there is a clash between an old idea and an emerging paradigm. Sometimes external events serve as evolutionary triggers to stir things up, and accelerate the manifestation of that higher state of consciousness. The evolutionary triggers wake us up from a state of complacency and move the process of evolution along a little more quickly.
However, to assure lasting transformational success, there is one essential ingredient - Love. Some may ridicule such a belief. Yet, the most significant spiritual avatars in history and other people with credible spiritual insight know that Love is the most potent force in the universe. According to The Revealing Word, a spiritual dictionary by Unity co-founder Charles Fillmore, "love is the pure essence of the Universe that harmoniously binds together the whole human family." If we are to rise above the divisive "us vs. them" consciousness that appears pervasive today, the spiritual principle of Love must underpin all we do.
If we are to create “a world that works for all," we must transform the shadow side of humanity that seeks to pit groups of people against one another. Laws and policies alone won’t get us to where we live and thrive as one human family. Only Love can do that. As we upgrade our vision, let’s give the power of Love a chance.
